ABOUT US

Community Roots

Magic Torch Comics CIC developed from an arts and heritage charity, which has been delivering community projects in Inverclyde since 1999.

Initially we created comics as a way to share folktales and history with new audiences. In 2017, with the support of Firstport we developed this voluntary project into a community interest company with social aims and objectives around literacy and creativity.

Our directors, practitioners and volunteers have a strong community learning and development background including community centre managers, lecturers, teachers, curators, development workers, charity fundraisers and risk management specialists.

Creative Team

Our projects and sessions are led by Paul Bristow, an author with over 25 years experience of working in the community learning and development sector. Paul also writes children's fiction, ghost stories and folk tales and runs his own community and digital storytelling projects over on A Story Boat.

We work with artists from all across the country and have a particular interest in working with developing artists. While all our artists are generally freelancers, we pay for all work produced and will never ask any of our artists to work "for exposure".

The website is full of work produced by the wonderful artists we have been lucky enough to work with including Mhairi M Robertson, Andy Lee, Norrie Millar, Robin Henley, Dylan Gibson, Katherine Hemmings, Alex Assan, Tony Pickering, Catriona Laird, Zu Dominiak, Hesitant Doodle and Kai Cockburn.
